California law does not permit retaliation or termination of an employee for discriminatory reasons. A termination because of someone’s age, gender, race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, medical disability, medical status or political beliefs is illegal in California. Other reasons for wrongful termination include complaining about your pay, missing meal and rest breaks or not being paid overtime.
Employees who are wrongfully terminated can file a lawsuit to recover money and benefits they could have earned if they were not terminated, damage from emotional distress and attorney’s fees.
